South Shields Market hailed a great success

It was great to be a part of the tremendous South Shields Christmas Market on Saturday where we saw the local community come together and make the event a resounding success.

Around 30,000 people came to the Christmas Market which had been organized by Jarrow Businesswoman Carol Gibson, on Saturday 7th November, 2019.

Being a local taxi service committed to South Shields, we were proud to be a part of the event and were delighted to see the response.

Richmond Taxis provided a free bus to a charity called Lavender Lasses (a campaign to raise money for Cancer Research UK). There have been similar community schemes with the support of taxi companies in other cities in the UK, including Sheffield Taxis and Milton Keynes taxis.

However, the effort by the South Shields community outstrips both those!

Any effort to bring more business into South Shields is to be applauded and it was great to see such a strong turnout for the event.

The community spirit was on show and its clear that we need more help for local businesses in South Shields. The potential is certainly there and this event has proved it.

Many of the older generation will remember how busy the old South Shields Market used to be many years ago.

We’ve heard about the hustle and bustle of the good old South Shields from many of our local taxi drivers and how busy and hectic South Shields once was.

It’s gradually declined over the years and it was heartening to see the response over the weekend.

We’re hoping to another successful South Shields Market next year and will look forward to supporting the event in 2020.

Richmond Taxis have been an integral part of the South Tyneside community and we still operate in our base in the centre of South Shields.

Being South Tyneside’s biggest Taxi company, we are committed to helping causes that would benefit the local community.

It was a pleasure to be involved with the campaign for this Christmas market in 2019 and we look forward to a bigger and better edition in 2020!
