Starting this evening we launch a new service designed to help any South Tyneside resident to have access to free transport for their child to and from the Childrens A & E department, based at Sunderland Royal Hospital between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
The service is provided through the charity Friends of South Tyneside Hospital which has been set up to give access to those who do not have the means or funds to transport their child between South Tyneside and Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Richmond Taxis, South Shields have been at the heart of the local community for over 50 years and we are delighted to be offering this service for the vulnerable.
We must state that this is a NON emergency transportation service only and should not be confused with the emergency services our NHS service provide.
If your child is sick and you think it is serious you should ALWAYS ring 999 and treat this as an emergency.
For anything not classed as an emergency again please first call 111 for SPECIALIST medical advice. If any of the above services deem your case to be non emergency but advise you to make your way to Sunderland Royal then this is where we can help.
Through the help of local fundraising involving the public and local businesses in South Tyneside we are able to provide you with FREE transport between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
All you need to do is give us a call on 0191 4553131 and let the operator know you require free transport to the hospital.
We must reiterate that in an emergency always dial 999 and speak to an operator, in any emergency situation you may need an ambulance to transport your child to hospital, the service this charity provides is NEVER to be used in an emergency.
The charity basically pays the bill for your Taxi to and from the Sunderland Royal Hospital Children’s A & E department during the hours of 10pm and 8am when South Tynesides Hospital Child services are closed.
Please remember if in doubt call 999. Please note our drivers and staff are not medically trained and CANNOT offer medical advice this is what the 999 and 111 services are for, we are simply providing FREE transportation both to and from the hospital.
